At We Change Lives (WCL), every team member's journey is a story of inspiration and dedication. Today, we're shining the spotlight on Dave, Activities Partner in our older people services, whose role at WCL exemplifies the passion and commitment that drives our organisation.

So Dave, tell us about your journey with WCL so far.

"Certainly! I used to work with local authorities in music and arts development. Then, seeking a change, I joined We Change Lives in 2011. It was my first experience working with individuals with dementia, a role that brought new challenges and learning opportunities. Thankfully, the initial training I received was excellent and instrumental in shaping my career in the care sector.

"Joining WCL was a significant shift from my two decades in local authorities, and it spurred the development of a new skill set, enriching my professional and personal life. I'm so passionate about what I do, and aim to further develop it by building more community partnerships to deliver creative and enriching activities for our residents and their families."

So what does a typical day look like in your role?

"There's no typical day at WCL, as every day brings something new. The services have such a homely and inclusive atmosphere, emphasising the importance of every individual. WCL's culture revolves around care and recognition of individuality, and it prioritises the needs of the people we support while celebrating their uniqueness.

"My role involves a variety of activities ranging from arts and crafts to music, which is a powerful tool that resonates deeply with our residents. I truly feel that my role greatly enhances the residents' lives at The Mews. It brings stimulation and joy to their daily experiences, something they often remind me of - especially when I take a holiday!

"Building relationships with the people we support and their families is a crucial part of my job, too - and it's also the best part! I love meeting and getting to know such diverse groups of wonderful people, and helping to create vibrant, fulfilling lives for them."

Finally, what advice would you give to someone considering a career at WCL?

"I'd encourage them to give it a try. This role was a new venture for me, and it turned out to be the most rewarding and satisfying experience of my career."
