At We Change Lives (WCL), we believe that learning is at the heart of great care. Every person we support is unique, and so are the incredible people who work with us. That’s why we invest in personalised learning and development – because when our colleagues grow, so does the impact they make.

One of the people making this happen is Liane Millward, our Colleague Learning and Development Manager. Her role is all about empowering colleagues with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to provide the best possible care and she loves every second of it.

Learning, Growing, Leading: Liane’s Story

Liane’s journey with WCL started five years ago when she joined as a Learning Coordinator, eager to help others develop and thrive. Since then, she’s grown into her current role as a Colleague Learning and Development Manager, where she now shapes the learning journey for our team members across our services.

A typical day for Liane is spent designing and delivering training sessions – making sure every team member has the tools they need to provide compassionate, person-centred care. But for Liane, it’s about more than just training:

“I hope my role gives colleagues the knowledge and skills they need to deliver outstanding care with compassion and empathy.”

Why Learning Matters in Social Care

At WCL, learning isn’t just about ticking boxes. It’s about helping people feel confident, capable, and ready to make a difference. Liane plays a key role in creating a culture where colleagues feel supported in their development, whether they’re new to care or building on years of experience.

For her one of the most rewarding parts of the job is meeting people from all different backgrounds and experiences. “I love to engage with people – it keeps me motivated and humbled.”

Through her work, she ensures learning at WCL is engaging, relevant, and accessible, helping colleagues grow in their roles and feel more connected to the work they do.

We Change Lives: A Culture that Puts People First

Ask Liane what makes WCL special, and she won’t hesitate – it's the people.

“Every day, I see our colleagues making positive differences to the lives of the people we support, and it’s special.”

It’s this shared sense of purpose that makes WCL more than just a place of work. It’s a team, a community, and a space where learning and growth never stop. And for Liane, this is only the beginning:

Do you see yourself growing at WCL? “Yes, 100%!”

If you’re looking for more than just a job, somewhere that values learning, supports progression, and truly makes a difference – WCL might be the perfect place for you too. As Liane says, “We are an organisation that is continually trying to be better all the time, and you can't ask more than that.”
