Career Fulfilment And Future Goals: Teresa's Care Career Story

Meet Teresa, one of our dedicated Support Workers providing support to adults with learning and physical disabilities in Ellesmere Port. Having joined the team in May 2023, Teresa's story is a testament to how enriching and fulfilling a career move into care can be. Teresa's journey showcases not only the profound impact that a career in care can have, but also the importance of being part of an organisation that truly believes in making a difference and values its people.

Meet Teresa, Support Worker at We Change Lives
So Teresa, what does your typical day look like in your role?

"No two days are the same! It's super fun here and incredibly rewarding because my purpose is to support people to live their best lives. Day to day, I support the gents with medication management, personal care, cooking them nutritionally balanced meals, assisting them in attending medical appointments, helping them to budget their finances and update their care plans. I also take them on outings to places of interest to them, making sure they live life as independently as possible, while offering overall support their physical, emotional and mental well being."

What are some of the best things about working for WCL?

"My favourite thing about working here is definitely the people - the people I support, and the WCL team. The charity genuinely wants to make a difference and for the people we support to live their best lives - which means a lot to me. Values, ethics, beliefs and consistency are at the centre of everything, and the leadership team genuinely cares. I love how all the colleagues work together to have a positive impact on the lives of the people we support, too.

"I feel valued and appreciated in my contributions, too, and really enjoy the benefits and incentives on offer - like the welcome bonus, free meals, qualification bonus, refer a friend bonus, Christmas enhancements, etcetera.

"I've also had really great training so far! When I first joined WCL in May 2023, I completed a thorough induction with Lianne. It gave me the skills and confidence I needed to go ahead and fulfil my role. Since then, I've completed my Care Certificate and I have started my Level 3 in Lead Adult Care! WCL offers lots of in house training, too - I've already completed first aid, dementia and Buccal Midazolam training - just to name a few! My next goal is to progress to Senior Support Worker."

What advice would you give to someone considering a career at We Change Lives?

"Do it! I have no regrets, my career change was the best thing I've ever done. It's so rewarding knowing you are making a difference to someone else's life. I feel 100% happier, more motivated and less stressed than ever before, and I now have dreams and aspirations!"

If you're inspired by Teresa's story and you're also seeking a meaningful career, WCL offers a variety of opportunities where you can truly make a difference.
