A Cuppa Can Make a Difference: Brew Monday at WCL

Brew Monday is a national day in the UK dedicated to tackling loneliness over the winter months. It’s a simple idea with a big impact – sharing a cuppa, a conversation, and a reminder that no one has to feel alone.

Three women enjoy tea and biscuits indoors, surrounded by vintage décor and colourful signs. They appear cheerful and engaged in conversation.

At WCL, we see every day how important these little moments of connection are. A chat over tea, a shared laugh, or even just sitting together quietly can make a huge difference to someone’s wellbeing. It’s all about ensuring people feel seen and heard.

On Brew Monday, we encourage the people we support, our team members, and community to come together over a hot drink. Whether it’s a friendly catch-up, a quiet moment of company, or a bit of gentle laughter, these little gatherings show just how powerful simple connections can be.

Here are some easy ways you can take part too:

  • Invite someone for a cuppa – a friend, family member, neighbour, or colleague; even 10 minutes can make a difference

  • Check in with someone who might be feeling lonely – a phone call, video chat, or a short visit can go a long way

  • Make it cosy – a favourite mug, a warm blanket, or some biscuits can help create a comforting space

  • Share a story or a laugh – conversation matters more than fancy drinks or long visits

  • Include others – encourage people around you to join in

At its heart, Brew Monday is a reminder that the simplest things can mean the most. A shared cup, a story, or a smile – these are the little things that make life warmer, richer, and full of connection. 💛
